Framing Your Photos

To draw your viewer's eye into your photo, an easy technique to use is framing. In the photo below, notice how the tree trunk, on the left, and the branches above, frame the path and park. This causes a boxed-in view of the pathway and the person walking among the leaves.

Practice framing with the things around you. You can use natural frames like trees and branches, or you can also use tunnels, windows, or doorways. Remember that the frame does not need to go around the entire edge of the photograph.

  1. There are a number of fantastic books on the subjects of fashion and model photography available. They can be purchased cheaply online at sites like Amazon.com or even cheaper if you get them used on eBay. You will also need a good camera, a tripod, and a lighting system. One of the more often overlooked fashion photography tips, is to ensure that you always have plenty of film and extra batteries available.
